Poręba [ pɔˈrɛmba ] ( German Poremba ) is a city with about 8800 inhabitants in Poland. It is located five kilometers west of Zawiercie on the Schwarzen Przemsa and belongs to the powiat Zawierciański , Silesian Voivodeship .

history

The first mention of the village of Poręba comes from 1375 . In 1538 a steel works was built. At the beginning of the 16th century the settlement, which belonged to the Zawiercie rule, was granted Magdeburg law .

After the third partition of Poland in 1795, Poremba came as part of New Silesia to Prussia , to the Duchy of Warsaw in 1807 and finally to Congress Poland in 1815 .

In the 18th century, the iron and steel industry in Poręba was over and operations ceased. 1798 came the turning point for the further development of the city when Marshal Lucas von Bninski (Łukasz Bniński) became the new landlord. The smelter resumed operations and in 1800 the Wroclaw banker Pringsheim bought it .

After the division of rule along the Warta in 1828 , Poręba belonged to the Duże Zawiercie (Great Zawiercie) on the left of the river, which came to Mrzygłód (now part of Myszków ) in 1853 .

The factory for mechanical devices "Poręba" later emerged from the hut and has since been in different hands. These included German industrialists, a Jewish joint stock company, and an American association of Polish mechanics.

With the restoration of Poland in 1919, Poremba became Polish again. After the German occupation , on October 19, 1939, the settlement was incorporated into the German district of Warthenau, in violation of international law .

On January 1, 1951 Nowe Zawiercie, which had previously belonged to Poręba, was incorporated into Zawiercie. Another restructuring took place on January 1, 1957, when the municipalities of Kierszula, Dziechciarze, Krzemienda, Nowa Wieś, Turkowa Góra, Poręba, Zastawie, Kolonia and Niwki were merged to form the settlement Poręba I , which was named Poręba exactly one year later .

On January 1, 1973 Poręba received town charter, but was incorporated into Zawiercie on May 22, 1975. Since October 1st 1982 Poręba is again an independent town.
