The Tsumeb – Oshikango railway line (also known as the Northern Railway ) is an approximately 300-kilometer new TransNamib line in Namibia . In Tsumeb it connects to the Kranzberg – Otavi line (historic Otavi Railway ) and has been leading to Ondangwa since 2006 .

Construction phases

In 2001, planning began for a new line to Oshikango. Construction began in 2002. On May 11, 2006, rail traffic to Ondangwa began. The railway line was built in Cape Gauge. The construction costs amounted to 841 million N $ (about 65 million euros).

The approximately 63 km long connection to Oshikango had since been under construction. Operations started at the end of 2011. An official inauguration took place in July 2012. The construction phase was put at 80 million Namibian dollars (around 6.2 million euros).

In a third phase, a 38 km long branch line will connect Oshakati to the railway network.
