Bahodirjon Sultonov ( Russian Баходирджон Султанов Bachodirdschon Sultanow ; born January 15, 1985 in Andijon ) is a former Uzbek boxer . Sultonov was bronze medalist at the 2003 and 2009 World Championships and the 2004 Olympic Games, 2004 Asian Champion and 2006 Asian Games winner . He was also a participant in the 2008 Olympic Games .

Career

In 2001 Sultonov was world champion in flyweight (-51 kg) in youth (U17) and in 2002 world champion in bantamweight (-54 kg) in juniors (U19 ).

In 2003 Sultonov won the bronze medal at the World Championships after a semi-final defeat against Gennady Kovalev , Russia (21:15) . He also won the Central Asian Games in Dushanbe that year and the first and only Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad . At the Olympic Games in the following year, Sultonov reached the semifinals after victories over the bronze medalist of the European Championships 2004 Andrzej Liczik, Poland (RSC 2nd), and the bronze medalist of the Pan American Games 2003 Andrew Kooner, Canada (44:32), the semifinals, which he was against the Cuban defending champion Guillermo Rigondeaux lost with 27:13 points and won an Olympic bronze medal.

In 2005 Sultonov met Rigondeaux again in the quarter-finals of the World Championships and had to admit defeat to him again (RSC 3rd). Things went better again at the Asian Games in 2006 , where Sultonov won the gold medal. The following year he rose to featherweight (-57 kg), but was eliminated from the Asian Championships in the first fight against Zalkar Bakirov, Kyrgyzstan , and the 2007 World Championships already ended for Suktanow in the round of 16, which he was against the eventual world champion Albert Selimow , Russia (24: 9), lost. In 2008 Sultonov won the Asian Olympic qualification tournament in Bangkok with a final victory over Satoshi Shimizu , Japan (RSC 3rd). At the 2009 World Championships , Sultonov was able to win a medal again. After a semi-final defeat against Sergei Wodopjanow , Russia (7: 5), he won the bronze medal. In the 2010/2011 season Sultonov fought for the Pohang Poseidons in the World Series of Boxing of six fights, but he could only win two. Then Sultonov ended his career, but made an unsuccessful comeback attempt in 2012 in the lightweight (-60 kg) at the Askar Kulibayev memorial tournament in Oral .
