Bakhtiarpur or Bakhtiyarpur ( Hindi : बख़्तियारपुर , Urdu: بختیرپور) is a city in the northern Indian state of Bihar with around 50,000 inhabitants . The city was named after Muhammad bin Bakhtiyar Khilji , the Muslim conqueror of northeast India in around 1300 AD.

Bakhtiyarpur lies on the south bank of the Ganges at a height of approx. 50 m above sea level. d. M. and is about 50 km (driving distance) in a south-easterly direction from Patna . The climate is warm to hot and in the summer months June to September ( monsoons ) it is quite rainy.

About 94.5% of the population are Hindus and about 5% Muslim ; a small remainder goes to other religious communities such as Christians , Sikhs and Jains . As is customary in northern India, the male population is around 12% higher than the female.

Bakhtiyarpur is located in the fertile Ganges plain and is a medium-sized agricultural trade center ( rice , grain , sugar cane , sesame ). There are several schools and colleges and 4 smaller hospitals.
Attractions
Some modern Hindu temples as well as a mosque and a church are the only sights of the city.
