In the north-west lies the undeveloped area of the Auber district, while the city of Aub itself can be found in the west. Baldersheim and Aub have almost grown together. history

The Baldersheim area was probably settled in prehistoric times. Archaeological discoveries were made in the Kauberstatt and Staffelsbrunn corridors before the Second World War . The present village was first mentioned in 961 in a document from King Otto I. In 1009, King Heinrich II gave the newly founded diocese of Bamberg the village of Baldersheim.

With the Reichelsburg , which is in the immediate vicinity of the village, Ministeriale established themselves , who ruled the village between 1230 and 1803. However, the bailiwick remained in the hands of the Hohenlohe and the Lords of Weinsberg. The rebellious peasants destroyed the Reichelsburg in the German Peasants' War in 1525 , so that today only the old keep is visible. In 1602 the Truchseß von Baldersheim died out, who had also been well off for the village.

After the small aristocratic families had lost their territories through mediatization at the beginning of the 19th century, Baldersheim came to Bavaria. After an interim period in the Grand Duchy of Würzburg , the village finally became Bavarian as a rural community in 1814. In the course of the municipal reform in Bavaria, Baldersheim lost its independence and was incorporated into Aub on May 1, 1978.

Culture and sights

George's Church in Baldersheim

The center of the village is still today the Catholic parish church of St. Georg. At the beginning of the 17th century, Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn gave it the typical tower. However, the church already existed in the 14th century, as the late Gothic figures of the Franconian apostles around St. Kilian refer to. The nave was renewed in 1901. Immediately next to the church is a 15th century Mount of Olives chapel and an ossuary .

The Laurentius Chapel is located in the cemetery. The so-called watch tower and the former town hall from the 18th century still bear witness to the former village self-government. The tithe barn indicates the feudal order of the 17th century. Many wayside shrines from different centuries have been preserved in the village and in the corridor . The oldest of these tortures is the relief of the crucifixion in the ossuary, which dates back to 1450.
