Ballston Spa is a town in Saratoga County ( State of New York ). The city was named after one of the first settlers and clergymen Eliphalet Ball.

geography

The place is in the east of the state of New York about 50 km north of the capital Albany .

history

The region was first settled in 1763 by Michael and Nicholas McDonald, west of what is now Ballston Lake. In 1770 the clergyman Rev. Eliphalet Ball arrived from Bedford, NY with his three sons - John, Stephen, and Flemings - and several members of his ward. Eliphalet Ball bought the area from the brothers, including the right to name the town after them, and named it "Ball's Town". Over time, the name was shortened to "Ballston".

Guests were presidents, senators and wealthy private individuals. The village was known at the time for its mineral springs, the water of which was used in the sanatoriums.
