Balthasar Puolamer

Balthasar Puolamer OSB (born April 23, 1615 in Bachhaupten , † May 14, 1681 in Ochsenhausen ) was the 19th  abbot of the imperial abbey of Ochsenhausen in today's Biberach district in Upper Swabia .

Puolamer was born in Bachhaupten, today part of the suburb of Tafertsweiler within the municipality of Ostrach in the district of Sigmaringen . He took his religious vows on January 6, 1632 . His primacy took place on May 1, 1639. Then he held the functions of novice master , prior and large cellar within the monastery . On June 4, 1671, he was elected abbot by his confreres.

Assumption of Mary - Steinhausen an der Rottum

During his tenure, the construction of Hersberg Castle near Immenstaad on Lake Constance was completed. The monastery spent 2922 guilders on this. In 1672 he had the church in Assumption of Mary in Steinhausen an der Rottum built for 3853 guilders. The altar leaves come from the Memmingen painter Johann Heiss , who received 150 guilders for it.

In 1675, troops of the Imperial Army took their winter quarters in the spiritual territory under the command of Count Piccolomini . Piccolomini and demanded a sum of 1000 thalers when he withdrew from the area . On June 23, 1679 Abbot Balthasar laid the foundation stone for the St. Veit burial chapel in Ochsenhausen. On May 6, 1681, large parts of the neighboring Rot an der Rot monastery burned down due to arson .

Georg Geisenhof mentioned in his chronicle that Abbot Balthasar could no longer leave his bedside due to fluctuating health and died eight days later on May 14, 1681 at the age of sixty-six. According to his wish, his remains were buried at the foot of the Marien Altar in the Church of the Assumption of Mary in Steinhausen an der Rottum .
