Bambadinca is a small town in the center of Guinea-Bissau with about 6500 inhabitants. It belongs to the Bafatá region and is the seat of the sector of the same name with an area of ​​1020 km² and around 32,000 inhabitants.

During the Portuguese colonial war , which lasted from 1963 to 1974 in Guinea-Bissau and was waged particularly intensively, the Portuguese army in particular maintained one of its bases in Bambadinca, where a number of units were stationed (including the Bcaç 4616 and Bcaç 2852 hunter battalions ).

The occurring here anurans -Art Pseudhymenochirus merlini "Bambadinca" from the family of tongueless known as frog breeders and -friends in Europe.

Economy and Transport

Agriculture determines the economy in the Bambadinca sector. The naturally irrigated rice fields and extensive livestock farming, especially cattle, should be mentioned. In addition, the place has regional importance as a trading center.

Bambadinca has become known for its renewable energy project : the power grid, fed by 1248 solar modules , supplemented by 216 storage batteries and three diesel generators as fail-safe, supplies the entire village with electricity all day and provides street lighting at night, a specialty in Guinea-Bissau. The project, which was created with the help of the Portuguese NGO TESE-SF ( Tese Sem Fronteiras ) in cooperation with a local initiative group, began in 2015 and was co-financed by the EU .

Bambadinca has an airfield with the ICAO code GGBB .

Sports

The most important sports club in the sector is the FC Lagartos football club . In 2014 he was promoted to the top division of the country for the first time, the Campeonato Nacional da Guiné-Bissau .

Lagartos FC finished their first season in the upper house in third place and has since established themselves in the Campeonato Nacional game .

The club welcomes its guests in the Estádio de Bambadinca.
