Bambusa oldhamii is a bamboo - type from the genus Bambusa .

Bambusa oldhamii reaches heights of 6 to 12 meters. The stalks have a diameter of 3 to 9 centimeters, are green, yellowish to yellow with age and very stable. The internodes are 20 to 35 centimeters long and have a wall thickness of 4 to 12 millimeters. The nodes are narrow and, from the middle stalk height, the starting point for numerous branches, three of which are usually stronger. The straw sheaths are dark brown, leathery and fall off early. They are initially hairy, later bald. The auricles are small, rounded and ciliate. The ligule becomes about 1 millimeter long. The blade blade is erect and at the base only about half as wide as the leaf sheath. The leaf sheaths are initially rough, slightly bristly eyed with a ligule about 1 millimeter long. The leaf blades are 15 to 30 centimeters long and 3 to 6 centimeters wide and are oblong lanceolate. The spikelets are 2.7 to 3 inches long and 0.7 to 1 inches wide and have three to five bracts and five to nine florets . The glume becomes 0.9 to 1 centimeter long and about 0.8 millimeters wide. The lemma resembles the glume is ovate, 1.7 inches long and 1.3 inches wide. The palea becomes 1.3 millimeters long. Three cavernous bodies of 3.5 millimeters are formed per florets . The anthers are 8 millimeters long, the ovaries are oval and about 2 millimeters long. The stylus becomes 5 millimeters long and has three scars .

New shoots appear from May to November, flowers appear from summer to autumn.

Occurrence

Bambusa oldhamii is native to southern China in the tropical plains of Fujian , Guangxi , Hainan and was introduced to Taiwan early on . The species is often grown there because of the edible sprouts.
