Bap Kennedy (born June 17, 1962 in Belfast , Northern Ireland , † November 1, 2016 ) was a British singer , songwriter and guitarist.

Life

Bap Kennedy was born in Belfast as one of six children - he described his family as "a small family by Irish standards". His father, Jim Kennedy, worked for the Post, and his mother's name was Lily.

With Energy Orchard , Bap Kennedy was part of the Irish rock world from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s. Due to business turbulence and personal problems of individual musicians, the band was sidelined. Kennedy himself was addicted to alcohol for six years. With his own label and with the participation of fans and sponsors such as Steve Earle and Van Morrison , he became very well known in the following years. Six solo albums were created by 2013. Kennedy released the solo album The Sailor's Revenge in 2012 . The CD, produced by Mark Knopfler , contains melancholy song stories full of a Celtic soul.

His younger brother Brian Kennedy is also a musician who represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Greece .

Bap Kennedy died in a hospice on November 1, 2016 of pancreatic and colon cancer that was diagnosed in May.
