Barbara Hammer (computer scientist)
Barbara Hammer (born July 31, 1970 in Mannheim ) is a German computer scientist and heads the chair for machine learning at the Technical Faculty of Bielefeld University .
Career
After graduating from high school in Osnabrück, Hammer studied mathematics and computer science at the University of Osnabrück from 1989 to 1995 . In 1999 she received her doctorate with a dissertation on "Learning with Recurrent Neural Networks" at the University of Osnabrück. In 1999, Hammer was a visiting researcher at Rutgers University . From 1999 to 2004 she headed a junior research group funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture in the project “Using neural methods to learn from structured data” in Osnabrück. In 2000 she worked as a visiting researcher at the "Center for Artificial Intelligence & Robotics" (CAIR) in Bangalore . In 2001 she worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Pisa . In 2004 she accepted a call to a C 4 professorship at Clausthal University of Technology . In 2005 she taught as a visiting professor at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne . In 2008 she worked as a visiting researcher at the University of Groningen . In 2010, she accepted a professorship at Bielefeld University, where she has since headed the chair for machine learning at the technical faculty .
Her main research interests are in the areas of artificial neural networks , data mining , bioinformatics , learning theory and machine learning.
