Barbara Kortmann (* 1985 in Munich ) is a German flautist .

Life

Barbara Kortmann grew up in Hamburg . She received her first flute lessons at the age of twelve at the Hamburg Conservatory . She completed her studies with Andrea Lieberknecht, University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover , Felix Renggli, Music Academy of the City of Basel and Michael Martin Kofler , Mozarteum University in Salzburg . During her studies she received advancement awards a. a. from the Hamburg University of Music, the Dr. Meyer Struckmann Foundation, the Marc Rich Foundation and the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation. Furthermore, the winner of the International Music Competition Jeunesse Musicales Bucharest, the International Aeolus Wind Competition for Flute, Oboe and Trombone in Düsseldorf and the competition of the Märkische Kulturkonferenz , which she won in 2010 as the first female flautist in the history of the competition and thus a winner of the Märkischer Scholarship for music 2010 . She also received the special prize for young musicians from the NDR Symphony Orchestra and was a scholarship holder of the Live Music Now foundation set up by Yehudi Menuhin .

Her concert activities as a chamber musician and soloist have taken her to many cities in Germany as well as Scandinavia, Romania, Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the USA.

In 2012 she won first prize in the American Protégé International Music Competition. In addition, the jury awarded her the 'Judges Distinction Award' and the prize for 'Best Performance' at this competition . As part of this competition, she played a concert with other award winners in March 2013 at Carnegie Hall (Weil Recital Hall) in New York. In 2015 she was the 1st prize winner of the International Music Competition - Grand Prize Virtuoso in Paris. At the Galway Weggis Flute Festival 2016 she received the Rising Stars Award from Sir James Galway .

Since 2016, as part of the pilot project artistic qualification positions for a professorship, she has been a lecturer for transverse flute at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media.

Her album Inner Lights , released in 2017 under the Genuin classics label , was awarded gold at the Global Music Awards.

Kortmann lives and works in Berlin, Hamburg and Hanover.
