Barbara Wiernik

Barbara Wiernik (* 1974 ) is a Belgian jazz singer , songwriter and composer.

Career

Wiernik studied jazz in Antwerp and at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Norma Winstone , David Linx and Diederik Wissels , Kenny Wheeler and Kris Defoort . She also took lessons in South Indian singing from RA Ramamani .

Together with keyboardist Jozef Dumoulin , she recorded her first album in 2000; then she took part in projects by Alexandre Furnelle, Manu Hermia, Giacomo Lariccia and Marie-Sophie Talbot and founded the trio PiWiZ (Jacques Pirotton, Wiernik, Pirly Zurstrassen). She caught the attention of the Belgian scene with her album Soul of Butterflies . Then she worked in the trio WRAP! with Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and the guitarist Alain Pierre, who released a first album with Endless on Igloo Records in 2014 .

In addition, she followed the trio Winter Sweet with trumpeter Jean-Paul Estiévenart and pianist Bram De Looze as well as a duo with singer Kristina Fuchs . In the project Les 100 ciels de Barbara Wiernik she works with 13 musicians from different genres. She also runs a duo with the Italian pianist Nicola Andrioli. She also worked with Marco Locurcio, Pierre Van Dormael , Nathalie Loriers , Michel Hatzigeorgiou , Bart Defoort and Jeroen Van Herzeele .
