Barbarea macrocarpa is a species ofthe cruciferous family (Brassicaceae). It occurs in Lebanon and Syria .

description

Barbarea macrocarpa is a perennial herbaceous plant with distinct, woody stems that carry remnants of the petioles from the previous growing season. The leaves are distributed both in basal rosettes and on the stem. The basal leaves are lyre- shaped with considerably enlarged end leaflets and set on the stems with eyelets . The stalked, somewhat leathery stem leaves are arranged in a comb-shaped or pinnate manner.

Winding, racemose inflorescences are developed. The hermaphrodite flowers are fourfold. The four free petals are bright yellow. The stylus bears a narrow, tiny scar .

The compressed, linear pods , which gradually narrow towards the tip, are (rarely 2.5 to) 4 to 6 centimeters long. They have - compared to the pod - more than half as strong stems and end in a fruit pen up to 3 millimeters long. The coarsely reticulated, single-row seeds are dark reddish brown to blackish in color.

Systematics

This species was named Nasturtium macrocarpum by Pierre Edmond Boissier in Diagnoses Plantarum Orientalium novarum , Lipsiae (= Leipzig), ser. 1, 8, pp 18 first described . It was placed in the genus Sumpfkressen ( Rorippa Scop. ) In 1970 as Rorippa macrocarpa Mouterde and in 1983 as Ceriosperma macrocarpa (Boiss.) Greuter & Burdet in the genus Ceriosperma . Most recently, Ihsan Ali Al-Shehbaz and Fernand Jacquemoud transferred this species to Candollea , Organe du Conservatoire et du Jardin Botaniques de la Ville de Genève , Volume 55 (1), p. 202 as Barbarea macrocarpa (Boiss.) Al-Shehbaz & Jacquemoud in 2000 into the genus Barbarakräuter ( Barbarea W.T. Aiton ).
