Barbaros is a municipality in the Süleymanpaşa district in the Turkish province of Tekirdağ . It has 5,076 inhabitants (as of 2012) and is located on the Sea of Marmara about three kilometers north of Kumbağ and seven kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Tekirdağ .
history
The history of the place Barbaros can be traced back to antiquity; possibly a Thracian foundation . The ancient name was Panias (Πανιάς) or Panis (Πανίς), in Byzantine times the city was called Panidos (Πάνιδος).

Barbaros is a Turkish tourist place. Many residents of Istanbul have holiday homes (so-called yazlıks) here, where they spend their summer holidays.

economy
Barbaros has a port that has been expanded by the Asyaport company to an international port, from which ferries cross to the islands in the Marmara Sea. There are also some fishing trawlers and a weekly market.
traffic
Currently, Avşa , Marmara and Erdek can be reached from Barbaros by car ferries. There is a road that leads to Tekirdağ and in the other direction continues to Kumbağ and Naipköy. Dolmuşs drive from the center of Tekirdağ to Kumbağ and Naipköy.
