The Réservoir Taureau is a reservoir in the Canadian province of Québec .
The Barrage Matawin dam , a gravity dam , was built in the years 1925–1931 on the upper reaches of the Rivière Matawin , a right tributary of the Rivière Saint-Maurice . The reservoir was built back then as a water reservoir and for rafting .
The Réservoir Taureau, in which 54 islands are located, extends over a length of 31.7 km. The reservoir has a water surface of 95 km² and lies at an altitude of 356 m. It is located 80 km north of Joliette in the MRC Lanaudière .
The reservoir is now a recreational destination. It is located in the Parc régional du Lac Taureau regional park . At the beginning of the 2000s, the dam was supplemented by a hydropower plant (expected to be operational in 2011). The power plant will have a vertical Kaplan turbine ( Kaplan Frontospiral ) with an output of 15 MW . This is designed for a flow rate of 90 m³ / s. The hydraulic potential is 21 m. The standard work capacity is 62.5 GWh per year.
