The Barren Islands are a group of islands in Alaska , United States of America . They are the northernmost islands of the Kodiak Archipelago . The largest island in the group is Ushagat Island . The archipelago has an area of 42.03 km² and is uninhabited. The islands of East Amatuli Island and North Island have some of the largest breeding grounds for seabirds in Alaska. The archipelago is part of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge .
