Barry Otto

Barry Otto (* 1941 in Brisbane , Queensland ) is an Australian actor .

Barry Otto is active on the theater stage as well as in film and television. His portrayal of Doug Hastings in the dance film Strictly Ballroom - Dancing Against All Rules by director Baz Luhrmann brought him the 1992 AFI Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He received nominations in later years for performances in Bliss , Cosi and The More Things Change .

Although Barry Otto is better known as an actor, he also has a recognized role as a painter. He has exhibited his oil paintings on canvas in various Australian galleries, including the prestigious Andrew Crawford Gallery in Paddington , Sydney .

Barry Otto is the father of Australian actresses Gracie Otto and Miranda Otto and the father-in-law of actor Peter O'Brien .
