occupation

Rogue is a 2007 Australian horror film directed by Greg McLean, who was also responsible for Wolf Creek . The main roles are played by Radha Mitchell and Michael Vartan .

The film dramatizes the true story of the crocodile Sweetheart , who gained worldwide fame in the 1970s for attacks on smaller fishing boats in Australia. It is probably the best-known rogue crocodile ("rogue crocodile"), a common name for crocodiles that are known through regular attacks on people.

action

During a river trip in the Northern Territory in Australia , a group of tourists is attacked by a giant crocodile , and the boat capsizes. The group can escape to a small island in the middle of the river. However, the river is affected by the tides and the tide is approaching. An attempt to escape to the mainland along a taut rope fails. Several members of the group and two motorboat drivers fell victim to the beast that night. Pete - an American travel reporter - falls into the underground cave of the monster and finds the seriously injured tour guide Kate. The crocodile stored them there as prey and wants to eat them later. The two and the rest of the group get away with their lives after Pete brings down the monster in close combat on his own territory. In the newspaper it is portrayed as a heroic act.

criticism

The lexicon of international films judges the production to be an "exciting horror film with Australia's most popular monster creature" . It is about "solid genre fare with convincing actors."

According to Björn Helbig von Filmstarts' judgment , Rogue - In the wrong district is an "atmospheric animal horror film" . He praised the camera work, "whose atmospheric tracking shots show the beauty of Australian nature" . The film doesn't take itself too seriously and contains “a well-dosed ounce of irony” . At the same time, in contrast to many other genre films, the causality of the animal attacks is changed, because "the people invade the animal kingdom, the tourists into the" territory "of the long-established Australians, whose ancestors in turn invaded the habitat of the native Australians" . This “implied political statement” could also be applied to colonization , but “ should not be overused” . The animations were successful, it was possible to make the “computer-generated crocodile look real”. Helbig particularly praises the portrayal of Radha Mitchell and Sam Worthington as well as the “solid tension build-up” .

Awards

The Australian Film Institute honored Andrew Hellen , Dave Morley , Jason Bath and John Cox with an AFI Award for Best Visual Effects in 2007 . From the Australian Writers' Guild was Greg Mclean for the 2007 Awgie Award in the category Feature Film - Original nominated. In 2009 the film reached 3rd place at the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards in the category Best Limited-Release / Direct-to-Video Film .
