Bartholomäus Keckermann

Bartholomäus Keckermann (* around 1572 in Danzig ; † August 25 (or July) 1608 there ) was a German Reformed theologian and philosopher . He became known for his analytical method .

Life

Bartholomäus Keckermann grew up as the son of the businessman Georg Keckermann in the sectarian disputes in his hometown on the side of the Reformed . He studied at the University of Wittenberg since May 4, 1590 , enrolled at the University of Leipzig in the summer semester of 1592 and switched to the University of Heidelberg on October 22, 1592 , where he obtained the degree of master's degree on February 17, 1595 . He then worked as a teacher at the Heidelberg Pedagogy , moved to the Heidelberg Collegium Sapientiae in 1597, and in this task prepared young people for attending colleges . He read about logic.

In 1600 he was given the chair of the Hebrew language at Heidelberg University . He also gave private lectures on dogmatics . After he received his doctorate on March 23, 1602 , he followed a call to the Academic Gymnasium Gdansk , where he devoted himself to scientific subjects as vice rector.

Keckermann is considered to be the founder of the “analytical method”, which aims at the encyclopedic order of the available knowledge, in the symbiosis of theology and philosophy. He took up the knowledge theories of Rudolf Agricola , Philipp Melanchthon , Giacomo Zabarella and Petrus Ramus by combining them into a rationally defined system. The analytical method developed as a basic science for all sciences and was the prototype of science at that time. The combination of methodological awareness and the empirical accumulation of knowledge exerted a significant influence on the encyclopedic literature of the subsequent period.
