Bartolomeo Ruspoli

Bartolomeo Ruspoli (born August 25, 1697 in Rome , † May 21, 1741 in Vignanello ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the son of Francesco Maria Marescotti Ruspoli, first prince of Cerveteri, and Isabella Cesi. On his mother's side, he was a great-nephew of Pope Innocent XIII. and Cardinal Bernardo Maria Conti .

As Apostolic Protonotary , he entered the service of the Curia in 1718 . He was a knight of the Order of Malta . The College of Cardinals elected him governor of the conclave of 1721 . Innocent XIII. appointed him secretary of the memorials in 1721. Appointed secretary of Propaganda fide in 1724 , he received minor orders on June 26, 1725 . Dissatisfied with the situation in Rome, he left the city in 1728 and his position remained de facto vacant.

In the consistory of October 2, 1730 , Pope Clement XII. him as a cardinal deacon in the college of cardinals. On October 5 of the same year Bartolomeo Ruspoli received the cardinal's hat and on November 22, 1730 Santi Cosma e Damiano as a titular deaconry . With a papal dispensation of December 14, 1730, he was ordained deacon and priest on the same day. In 1731 he became Grand Prior of Rome of the Order of Malta. He took part in the 1740 conclave, which resulted in the election of Benedict XIV as pope.

Bartolomeo Ruspoli died after a long illness on May 21, 1741 at around 9 p.m. in the Palazzo Ruspoli in Vignanello. First he was buried in the collegiate church there, following his last will, his body was transferred to the Capuchin Church of Santa Maria Immacolata a Via Veneto in Rome.
