Hugo of Lupine

Hugo Freiherr von Lupine (born July 26, 1829 in Illerfeld , † May 11, 1902 in Stuttgart ) was a Württemberg lieutenant general and commander of Stuttgart.

Life

origin

Hugo was born in his parents' castle Illerfeld near Memmingen and was a son of the Bavarian Oberbergates Friedrich von Lupine (1771-1845) and his second wife Juliane, born von Wachter (1790-1857).

Military career

After attending grammar schools in Augsburg and Kempten , Lupine entered the officer training institute of the Württemberg Army in Ludwigsburg on October 12, 1846 . On October 15, 1849, with a patent dated April 8, 1849, he was promoted to lieutenant in the 3rd Infantry Regiment and was promoted to captain and company commander by mid-October 1865 . In this capacity he led the 7th Company in the war against Prussia in the battle near Tauberbischofsheim . After the war, Lupine was commanded from March to June 1868 for training purposes in the Guard Fusilier Regiment of the Prussian Army in Berlin . At the head of his company he took part in the fighting at Wörth , Sedan and Nogent-sur-Seine as well as the enclosure and siege of Paris in 1870/71 during the war against France .

Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, Lupine was accepted into the Prussian Army after the peace treaty was signed by the military convention and was promoted to major as battalion commander on November 27, 1871 in the 7th Württemberg Infantry Regiment . In this position, King Charles awarded him the Knight's Cross of the Order of Military Merit on December 1, 1873 . With a position à la suite , Lupine was initially commissioned on March 4, 1876 with the command of the Infantry Regiment (3rd Württembergisches) No. 121 and on September 22, 1876 he was appointed regimental commander. By the end of September 1881 he was promoted to colonel , on July 21, 1885, under position à la suite of his regiment, he was commissioned to lead the 51st Infantry Brigade (1st Royal Württembergische) in Stuttgart and on January 29, 1886 he was commander of it Major association appointed. After he had been promoted to major general on September 10, 1886 , he handed over command of the brigade to Max Schott von Schottenstein on July 12, 1888 . Lupine was then appointed to the commandant of Stuttgart and to the board of the senior recruiting council. He received the character of Lieutenant General on October 31, 1888 . After being granted a patent of his rank on June 25, 1889, Lupine was put up for disposal with a pension on December 8, 1890 in approval of his resignation request. On this occasion, King Karl paid tribute to him with the Commander's First Class of the Order of Frederick .

Lupine married Karoline Veiel (1841-1917) on June 5, 1860 in Stuttgart. The following children were born from the marriage:
