Bernardo Maria Cardinal Conti OSB

Bernardo Maria Conti OSB (born March 29, 1664 in Rome , † April 23, 1730 ibid) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church . He was a brother of Pope Innocent XIII.

Life

In 1680 he entered the Roman Benedictine Abbey of St. Paul Outside the Walls and was ordained a priest on December 21, 1689 . Later he was first abbot of the monastery of Santa Maria di Gangi in Sicily and then abbot of the abbey of Farfa and visitor of the Cassinese Benedictine Congregation for the provinces of Rome, Etruria and Naples.

On December 1, 1710, Conti was appointed bishop of Terracina , whereupon he received episcopal ordination in Rome on January 4, 1711 by his brother, Cardinal Michelangelo Conti . On June 3, 1720, due to illness, he resigned as Bishop of Terracina and retired to the seat of a brother, the Duke of Poli . In the consistory of June 16, 1721 Conti was now Pope Innocent XIII. elected brother Michelangelo was elevated to cardinal and shortly thereafter appointed cardinal priest with the titular church of San Bernardo alle Terme . From 1721 to 1730 he was a cardinal major penitentiary .

Cardinal Conti took part in the conclave of 1724 , from which Benedict XIII. emerged as the new Pope .
