Bauernmühl

The Bauernmühl is a former water mill . It is located at Schmiedgasse 19 in Laas in Vinschgau in South Tyrol .

The previous building was a so-called Wasserschmitten , which belonged to the municipality of Laas and after which Schmiedgasse was named. This was first mentioned on March 8, 1728.

According to the instruction with this date in the municipal archive:

"... provide common Schmidt with kholl, iron, sting, etc. ain Wohlerfarnen Schmidtknecht der gross u. klain work also good weapons make u. the Wögeisen can be, have, and the master, as has been customary of old, should be paid for rye by the village master on St. Martinitag, for the ship's stain and the like. everything 64 star. "

The "Schmidt stuff" was assessed by the municipality for the respective Schmidt. According to the Schmidt grain register of 1779, a container with 7 meshes is to be made.

The water Schmitten was 1,783 at the huge Mure destroyed the Valdraunbaches.

"The Gd. Laas bes. E. Wasserschmitten on the other side of the Adige where mills, so zu has a water hammer u. is signed with N. 20, comes to the Kohlstatt at midnight. Was floated away except for a few pieces in 1783. "

Instead of the destroyed forge, a flour mill was built, which was divided into the lower and upper mill. It was operated with hydropower until 1954, when it was connected to the electrical grid by the Montecatini company that year. However, since there were constant bottlenecks in the power supply, the grinding operation was stopped in the 1980s.

Both the lower and the upper mill are owned by several families from Lasa.

The building is now used as a storage room.
