Marienkapelle (Parnetz)
The Marienkapelle von Parnetz is located in the municipality of Laas ( South Tyrol ) at 1150 m slm on the slope of the Nördersberg in the immediate vicinity of the Wittibhof.
history
Nothing more is known about the exact time of construction. Probably around 1870, the residents of the surrounding courtyards decided to build a church for themselves, as they already had with Ortisei with their neighbors in Tarnell . All courtyards in the district are named as owners of the chapel - the two owners of Gafair, the courtyards Vergold, Wittib, Oberegg and Pintschoar.
After completion, the chapel had not been consecrated for many years and could therefore only be used for prayers.
It was not until October 1919 that the pastor Nikolaus Malpaga from Laas asked the prince-bishop's ordinariate in Brixen to be allowed to read Holy Mass in the chapel .
Pastor Malpaga writes:
"28. October 1919.
For more than 40 years there has been a decent little chapel in the mountain hamlet of Parnetz, parish of Laas, with an area of around 25-30 m². Pastor Ortner had been built (or prepared) so that the Parnetzers should come to pray on Sunday afternoons, as well as during Lent and May. In it stands an altar with an altar painting (oil painting) depicting the coronation of Mary. The cafeteria must of course be raised by around 20 cm. Two arched windows allow sufficient light into the room, which is provided with wooden floors and vaulted walls. The door is made of larch wood and a wing. For two years now, the Parnetzers have had their own emergency school in the immediate vicinity of the chapel and have asked me to obtain permission to read Holy Mass in the chapel from the ordinariate. The utensils for reading mass will be ordered by the former field curate Johann Josef Ortler, now early knife in Schluderns . On behalf of the Parnetzer and by the same now and then listening to a Mese on weekdays to enable I request to the chapel the hochw. Fürstl Ordinariate to the authority benedizieren and permission in the hl. To offer a mass offering.
Nikolaus Malpaga "
The request was granted and after the sacred utensils were obtained, mass was held here on some working days. However, Sunday services continued to take place in Laas. This was sustained until shortly before the Second World War , then suddenly not anymore. The reasons for this can no longer be found out. The church was evacuated and closed. Until 1964 it served as a house of prayer in the event of death, then it was finally abandoned and used as a woodshed.
restoration
In the 1980s, he and the Parnetzers remembered the chapel's former importance for their ancestors, and considerations were made to restore the structure and restore it to its original purpose. With the support of the Monument Office and the municipality of Laas, the work began in 1984 with the active support of the Parnetzer and was finished in 1986.
The retaining wall on the mountain side had been renovated. The consolidation and repair work was carried out professionally with lime mortar, the roof structure was repaired and the roof with the wooden roof turret was re-covered with shingles. The vault was replaced by a flat wooden ceiling and the ailing floor renewed.
Building
The chapel faces east-west, with the pointed roof turret with the small bell above the western gable . There is a bezel above the front door . A round arched window is set into the north and south walls. The altar frame consists of columns and a blown gable and is the remains of an altar from the 17th century. Stations of the Cross , which are colored mezzotints from the late 18th century, form the wall decorations . There is also an oil print depicting the passage of Mary to the Temple. On the occasion of the restoration, Michl Hellrigl from the Pintschoarhof donated a people's altar . Since it could no longer be precisely determined who had been used as patronage , but there is an indication of an old altarpiece with the coronation of Mary, it was decided to accept it and an old picture from the "Bruggkirchl" was added as the altarpiece. It depicts Mary with the child, John the Baptist and St. Antonius . The small bell in the roof turret weighs 24 kilograms, sounds an electric tone and bears the inscription:
"Cast by Joh. Grasmair in Wilten-Innsbruck 1877"
There are several saints and decorations on the reliefs .
Due to the special circumstances, the church day is celebrated on the Assumption of Mary .
