The A: AI Archive for Architecture and Civil Engineering NRW , Baukunstarchiv NRW for short, is an architecture museum in Dortmund .
history
The Baukunstarchiv NRW was founded in 1995 by the TU Dortmund as a regional collection for architects and engineers' bequests from the greater North Rhine-Westphalia area . Supervision was provided by the Chair of History and Theory of Architecture (GTA) at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
In 2018 the holdings of A: AI were transferred to the newly founded Baukunstarchiv NRW in the building of the former Ostwallmuseum . The opening exhibition with a selection of the holdings took place from November 2018 to February 2019.
The A: AI is a member of the International Confederation of Architectural Museums and the Federation of German-Language Architectural Collections .
Estates
The A: AI has an important inventory of around 30,000 plans from the period from 1890 to 1960. The estate of the Gutehoffnungshütte dept. of bridge construction in Oberhausen is a special case ; this was taken over in cooperation with the Rheinisches Industriemuseum .
