Tree of the Sibyls (Étampes)
A window in the Notre-Dame-du-Fort church in Étampes , a town in the Essonne department in the Île-de-France region , is called the tree of the Sibyls . The lead glass window was created around 1550/60 and has been included in the list of cultural monuments as Monument historique since 1840 .
history
In the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance , analogous to the representation of the root Jesse , in other languages also known as the tree Jesse , the tree of the sibyls can be found in art .
description
Starting from a trunk at the very bottom in the middle lancet, the twelve sibyls are shown, which are supposed to be branches of this trunk. Above the sibyls, King David is depicted on the left and Isaiah on the right , above which is Mary with the child as the coronation .
