history

Former coat of arms of the Baumgarten community

Baumgarten probably goes back to a settlement in the High Middle Ages . The first written record of the place comes from 1366. Baumgarten was the seat of the Baumgarten rule within the margraviate of Burgau . From 1366 to 1416 the lords of Steinheim, whose coat of arms , a bar accompanied by diamonds, was included in the later municipal coat of arms , have been handed down as owners . From the lords of Steinheim the place came to the marshals of Oberndorf and then to the Augsburg family von Argen. In the 15th century, the lords of Riedheim and the lords of Hirnkoven also owned Baumgarten. The rule of the Augsburg hospital came to the Paumgartner , who now called themselves Paumgartner von Baumgarten. The lily from their coat of arms was adopted in the later municipal coat of arms.

In 1610 Baumgarten came to the Counts of Rechberg and Rothenlöwen , who also owned property in Rieder and Windhausen , to the Fuggers , who had owned the neighboring Glött estate since 1537 . With the reign of Glött, Baumgarten came to Bavaria in 1806 and was assigned to the Dillingen district court .
