Baumgarten is a village in the Oberhavel district in Brandenburg . It is located between the Kirchsee and the Kleiner Dölschsee , about four kilometers south of the village of Sonnenberg , of which it has been a district since 1998. The townscape is characterized by a stone church with a square boarded wooden tower on its west side.

history

The place is first mentioned in a document in 1348 as Bomgard . In the 14th and 15th centuries, most of the town was owned by the von Pfuel family until Melchior von Pfuel sold it in 1495. Around 1500 Baumgarten belonged to the Ruppin rule of the Counts of Lindow-Ruppin, which was essentially imperial . It was the knight seat of the Lords of Flanß . Before the Thirty Years' War , the von der Groeben family acquired lands around Baumgarten and set up a second manor, and later they also acquired the estate of the von Flanß family. Around 1735 Herrmann Graf von Wartensleben auf Rauschendorf , who had been married to a heir to von Groebens since 1723, received Baumgarten together with Meseberg. The daughters sold Baumgarten together with three other goods in 1774 to Prince Heinrich in Rheinsberg , who gave the goods complex to his favorite Major Kaphengst . Baumgarten remained connected to Meseberg through joint owners until the 20th century. In addition to the estate, there were two water mills south of the village, including the Ferdinandshof. The Baumgarten estate with the Friedenshorst forestry and the dismantling of the large mill was merged into one municipality in 1928. In the course of the municipal reorganization of the state of Brandenburg, the municipality of Baumgarten was incorporated into the municipality of Sonnenberg with effect from September 27, 1998.
