The Bayındır were an important Oghuz tribe.

Mahmud al-Kāshgharī mentioned them under the name Bayundur as one of the 24 Oghuz tribes. As a totem animal they had a buzzard . Their tribal name means the place in Old Turkish that is often blessed .

The Bayındır came to Anatolia and the Middle East from Central Asia with the Seljuks in the 11th century . Some groups of the Bayındır also settled in northern Iraq and in southern Azerbaijan . The Aq Qoyunlu dynasty emerged from the Bayındır . From 1389 to 1507 they ruled Eastern Anatolia, Azerbaijan and large parts of Iraq and Iran.
