Bay View is a small town in the urban area of Napier in the Hawke's Bay region on the North Island of New Zealand .
geography
Bay View is about nine kilometers north of downtown Napier . The New Zealand State Highway 2 runs right through the town. North of the village opens Esk River in the Pacific Ocean belonging Hawke Bay . The Hawke's Bay Airport is located south of Bay View .
history
The area was formerly known as " Petane " and was captured by Māori in the early 1860s , who intended to attack Napier .
