Bear (sometimes B3AR ) is a progressive metal - tape from the Belgian Antwerp . She is considered a representative of the Djent movement.

history

At the beginning of 2009 the guitarist Leander Tsjakalov and the drummer Serch Carriere, who had already played together in the band Minus45degrees, started making music together. A little later, the bassist Dries Verhaert joined them, so the search for a suitable singer, who was found in Maarten Albrechts, as a result of which they founded the band Bear in spring 2010. In August 2010 the band released their debut EP Abstractions , which they distributed themselves and which a little later was also available digitally via the label's own online store of the Belgian music label Conspirancy Records . After some minor concerts followed a tour alongside While She Sleeps by Britain .

At the end of 2010 the band was signed by the German record label Let It Burn Records , through which they released a remastered version of their first EP in April 2011 under the name Abstractions 2.0 . The contact to the label came about through Dries Verhaert, who was already under contract with his former band Death Before Disco . In October 2011, appeared with Doradus , the debut album of the band on its cover, the Belgian model Anouck Lepere was seen. The name of the album came from the star α Doradus from the swordfish constellation , which is one of the brightest in the universe . The band chose the name because, like the star α Doradus in the universe, they see themselves as part of something great and easy to find if you look for them.

In 2012 the band appeared as the opening act for Periphery and Textures and was represented at Groezrock . In addition, she could be seen at the eighth edition of the Euroblast Festival alongside bands such as After the Burial and TesseracT .

In August 2013 the band signed a recording contract with the British label Basick Records . The second album Noumenon was released on October 7, 2013. The album name is based on Immanuel Kant's work Critique of Pure Reason , where it describes a metaphysical phenomenon that cannot be experienced.

Music genre

Bear plays a mixture of hardcore punk , technically influenced progressive metal and djent . The music is mainly characterized by a high number of breaks , shifts in rhythm and fast, virtuoso playing. The main focus is on the technical side. The singing style alternates between guttural and clear singing with effects. Fear Factory , Mastodon , Botch , Dillinger Escape Plan , Vision of Disorder and Meshuggah are mentioned as comparables .
