Beat Raaflaub

Beat Martin Raaflaub (born August 19, 1946 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss conductor and historian.

Beat Raaflaub grew up in Basel and Cameroon . He is the younger brother of the ancient historian Kurt Raaflaub .

Raaflaub studied German and history at the University of Basel ; In 1975 he received his doctorate in modern Swiss history with a dissertation on the Swiss Evangelical Press Service. At the same time he trained as a concert singer with Fritz Näf and studied school music and choral conducting at the Music Academy of the City of Basel . He then taught at various schools, u. a. at the grammar school on Münsterplatz . In 1976 he was appointed director of the Muttenz youth music school near Basel.

From 1979 to 2016 he was head of the Kantorei St. Arbogast Muttenz and the Chamber Choir Zurich Unterland . He has given concerts with both choirs throughout Switzerland.

From 1983 to 2007 he was Beat Raaflaub artistic director of the Knabenkantorei Basel . With his choirs he can look back on numerous radio and television recordings. Concert tours with the Knabenkantorei taken him throughout Europe , in the United States and to South Africa and Brazil . Numerous CD recordings are evidence of his extensive work with the Basel Knabenkantorei.

As a conductor trainer, Raaflaub taught courses at the Basel Music School. He also moderated the music program Sing mit on the Swiss radio DRS , which was canceled due to a lack of listeners. As a member of the artistic advisory board of the European Youth Choir Festival in Basel, he played a key role in its musical presentation.

He is married to Marianne Kübler and has four children.
