Beatrix II (Burgundy)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beatrix of Burgundy (also Beatrix of Staufen ) (* around 1193 ; † May 7, 1231 ) was the heiress of the Palatine County of Burgundy . She was married to Otto VII of Meranien († 1234).

Life

She came from the Staufer dynasty and was the daughter of Count Palatine Otto I of Burgundy and Margaret of Blois-Champangne . Among other things, she was the granddaughter of Friedrich Barbarossa and niece of Philipp von Schwaben .

She was heir to the Palatinate County. For her, her mother initially exercised the real rule. It is unclear whether, after the father's death in 1200, a sister named Johanna took over the inheritance until around 1205, or whether the names Beatrix and Johanna referred to a person.

She married Otto Herzog von Meranien on June 21, 1208 . This resulted in a marital relationship between the Staufers and the Andechs family, who were devoted to them. On the day of Beatrix's wedding or the handover of the bride, Philipp von Schwaben was murdered by Otto von Wittelsbach in Bamberg .

Like her husband, Beatrix was buried in Langheim Abbey.

progeny

She and her husband had six offspring.
