Bracteate Count Hermanns II., Weimar , Orlamünde or Magdala.

Hermann II of Weimar-Orlamünde (* around 1184 ; † December 27, 1247 ) from the Ascanian dynasty was from (1206-1247) Count of Weimar-Orlamünde .

Life

He was the youngest son of Count Siegfried III. (* 1155, † 1206) and Sophie of Denmark (* 1159, † 1208), daughter of King I. Waldemar .

After the death of his father in 1206, Heinrich II ruled together with his brother Albrecht II. He came increasingly into conflict with the Landgraves of Thuringia, who occupied the mountain Schauenforst between Orlamünde and Rudolstadt. Landgrave Hermann I took him prisoner in his Weimar castle in 1214 . Landgrave Ludwig IV also fought against both brothers. Hermann II. Succeeded despite the continuing Ludowingian distress, the territorial sovereignty through formation of Weimar as a city and Cistercian Abbey House Oberweimar expand. He was largely in the Hohenstaufen camp and caused the decline of the house with his constant feuds. The possessions around the two main places remained separate rulership complexes, and so it was logical that in 1264/65 the sons of Hermann II, Hermann III. and Otto III., divided the rule and the two almost independent lines Weimar and Orlamünde emerged.
