Memorial in Oberbeberich

Beberich is a southern district of the town of Viersen ( Alt-Viersen ), which borders on the districts of Bockert , Hamm , Hoser , Rintgen and Ummer . About 4500 people live there. Beberich is rural, only in the forest / meadows and field region to the south does the district border the city of Mönchengladbach (Windberg district) at the level of the A52 motorway.

The Hammer Bach rises (today underground) on the edge of the Bockerter Heide and feeds the Bebericher Weiher, which also has several underground springs. The brook flows east towards the hamlet of Hamm and later flows into the Niers . Beberich is still divided today by a hill and a forest, the Plenzenbusch, into Upper and Lower Beberich.

The district used to be a monastery , which only grew together with other monks at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.

Association

The archery comes from a past necessity to protect the remote place from robbery gangs or wandering former soldiers. This gave rise to an association that is heavily involved in the maintenance of customs. This includes an active brotherhood system with the St. Hubertus brotherhood Viersen-Oberbeberich 1893 eV in Oberbeberich and the St. Remigius brotherhood in Unterbeberich. The annual highlight of the club's life is the large shooting festival of the St. Hubertus Brotherhood, which takes place every year on the second weekend in August.

There are three St. Martin's clubs in Berliner Höhe, Oberbeberich and Unterbeberich.

The football club Blau-Weiß Concordia Viersen 07/24 is based in Beberich, Bockert, Hoser and Helenabrunn . The Viersener tennis and hockey club also operates its facility with several tennis courts in Beberich.

religion

In 1891 the Catholic Church divided the district. From then on Unterbeberich belonged to the parish of St. Josef Rintgen, and Oberbeberich to the parish of St. Peter Bockert.

Today these formerly independent parishes and thus the entire district belong to the large community of St. Remigius Viersen.

Trade and economy

Due to the rural location there are several farms. Some craft businesses are also at home in Beberich. The Greefsallee industrial area is located on the outskirts of the city center. In the past, the well-known surprise bags went from Beberich all over the world.

Infrastructure

New fire station Viersen-Süd

In the area of the district is the Beberich sports complex with an ash court, a multi-purpose gym, a boules pitch and the clubhouse of the St. Hubert brotherhood. The Plenzenbusch sports complex with hockey fields and a grass football field is no longer used due to the former garbage dump and the resulting pollution (methane gas leakage).

A kindergarten as well as the fire station of the fire fighting groups Hoser and Helenabrunn of the volunteer fire brigade belong to the public facilities of the Viersen district.
