Beheaded is a Maltese death metal and brutal death metal band from Fgura that was formed in 1991.

history

The band was formed in 1991 and consisted of drummer Chris Brincat and guitarist David Bugeja. A short time later, Marcel Scalpello joined as a singer. In the following years the line-up changed several times before the first demo Souldead appeared in 1995 . Thereupon the guitarist Tyson Fenech and the bassist David Cachia could be heard as further members. The group also recorded the song Vae Victus for a local compilation . The demo was sent to various magazines, radio stations and labels. In 1996 the band got a record deal with the Swedish label X-Treme Records . In June of the same year, Temple Studios began recording their debut album, which was released in early 1998 under the name Perpetual Mockery . At the time of publication, guitarist Fenech had been replaced by Omar Grech. The album was reviewed in Kerrang and Terrorizer , among others . In the summer of the same year the first appearances outside of Malta followed, with concerts in the Czech Republic , Slovakia and Germany . During this tour, the group acted as opening act for Vader , Dying Fetus , Defaced Creation , Deranged and Fleshless, among others . Shortly after their return to Malta, the band split from their singer Scalpello and replaced him with Lawrence Joyce. After the group split from their label, the band recorded another demo in 1999 that included five songs. As a result, the band reached a contract with the Danish label Mighty Music . About this the demo was released as an EP under the name Resurgence of Oblivion . After further concerts the band worked from January to May 2001 on new songs for their second album. The recordings for this took place in the Temple Studios under the direction of David Vella . In July the band went on a European tour with their label colleague Anasarca , on which they also played on the Obscene Extreme . In early 2002 the second album was released under the name Recounts of Disembodiment . The sound carrier was reviewed again in the Terrorizer . Mighty Music was also able to license Resurgence of Oblivion and Recounts of Disembodiment to the US label Forever Underground Records . In April and May 2002 the first tour through the USA took place, the 20 appearances included, among other things, participation in the Ohio Deathfest and the New Jersey Metal Meltdown. Then the band went to Europe to play on the German Fuck the Commerce . Between the end of 2002 and mid-2003 the line-up changed again and Mighty Music was separated. The group attracted the attention of Unique Leader Records through a two-song demo, which led to a contract being signed in April 2004. In July and August 2004, the band recorded the album Ominous Bloodline at Temple Studios and was mastered in the US by Imperial Mastering. In October a small tour through Europe followed with the Belgian band Prejudice and also performed at the Ludwigshafen Deathfest. The album was released in March 2005. The release was followed by various tours and performances at festivals. From 2009 the line-up of the band changed. It now consisted of the drummer Chris Brincat, the guitarist Omar Grech, the bassist David Cachia, and the new members Frank Calleja as singer and Robert Agius as guitarist. In the new line-up after the band took part in the Neurotic Death Fest , the Death Feast Open Air and the Mountains of Death. Then the band finished work on their next album. The group went to Temple Studios to record the songs, with the vocals recorded at the 16th Cellar Studio in Rome under the direction of Stefano Morabito . Morabito also did the mixing and mastering of the album. The sound carrier was released in November 2012 via Unique Leader Records under the name Never to Dawn .

style

In his review of Resurgence of Oblivion , Robert Müller from Metal Hammer described Beheaded as Malta's first death metal band. The band is technically more demanding and brutal than on the debut album. According to Alexander Eitner from metalnews.de, the album Never to Dawn deals with the subject of "water" in terms of lyrics. On the sound carrier the band broke away from the Brutal Death Metal of the Suffocation brand and devoted themselves more to old-school death metal.
