The Beijing Sports University Football Club (Chinese:北京北体大; Pinyin: Běijīng Běitǐdà) also known as BSU (Chinese:北体大; Pinyin: In Tǐ Da) is a professional Chinese football club, currently in the China League One play . The team is based in Beijing and their home stadium is the Beijing Olympic Sports Center with a seating capacity of 36,228. Its current majority shareholder is the Beijing Enterprises Group .
history
Beijing Sport University FC was founded in 2004 by former Chinese soccer players Guo Weiwei , Wang Tao and Guo Weijian as an amateur soccer club under the name Beijing Baxy FC. Until 2009, the club's youth team was considered good enough to compete in professional football, and the club entered the third division of Chinese football at the start of the 2009 China League Two season. After a promising start to the season, which they led at the top of the table at halftime, the club finished third in the play-off and just missed promotion to the second division. After missing promotion, the club decided to take over the financially troubled China League One team (League One is the second highest division), Beijing Hongdeng , and took over their position in the league at the beginning of the 2010 season. In the first season from Beijing Baxy in the second division were deducted 6 points from Beijing Hongdeng for late payment of wages for Rajko Vidović in the 2007 season.
Beijing Baxy finished the season in 15th place out of 16 teams in the 2012 season and would have been relegated to China League Two again; However, they were spared relegation due to the dissolution of Dalian Shide . On February 26, 2013, Croatian coach Goran Tomić was officially announced as the club's new coach. After some high-profile players like Stephen Makinwa , Lucian Goian , Ryan Griffiths and Hu Zhaojun were signed, Beijing Baxy finished 7th in the 2013 season. Beijing Baxy started the 2014 season with 21 games without defeat (8 wins and 13 draws). So the hope of advancement remained until the last lap, but in the end it was missed with 4th place. Goran Tomić won the China League One Coach of the Year award in December 2014.
On December 25, 2014, Beijing Enterprises Holdings Limited bought a majority stake in the club and the club's name was changed to Beijing Enterprises Group FC. They also changed the club's crest and home shirt from white to blue and red.
On June 5, 2017, Beijing Enterprise player Cheick Tioté died of a heart attack while training at the age of 30. Since then, the club has not awarded the number 24 that Tioté had worn.
In 2019 the club was renamed Beijing Sport University FC.
