Bekoji ( Old Ethiopian በቆጂ ; also Bek'ojī or Bok'ojī , Italian Boccoggi , Bocoggi , Boccogi ) is the capital of the woreda Bekoji of the same name in the Arsi zone of the Oromia region in Ethiopia . It is located 105 km southeast of Addis Ababa . The city belonged to the former province of Arsi .
According to the figures from the Central Statistics Agency of Ethiopia, Bekoji had 16,730 inhabitants in 2005. In 1994, of 9,367 inhabitants, 56.91% were Oromo , 36.37% Amharen and 2.39% Soddo - Gurage and Silt'e and 1.03% Tigray . 51.81% spoke Amharic as their mother tongue, 45.69% Oromo and 0.98% Silt'e .

Therefore, the monthly temperature differences hardly vary and the seasonal character is caused by the amount of precipitation, which is highest in July and very low in December.

Bekojis awarded by the World Athletics Federation (IAAF)
In 2019, Bekoji in Yokohama was awarded the prestigious plaque of the International Federation of Athletics Federations (IAAF) by IAAF President Sebastian Coe as one of 11 locations . Bekoji was celebrated for his outstanding contribution to the global history and development of athletics. "The eleven recipients we are honoring tonight have each had an enormous impact on the historical development of athletics in their countries and beyond," said Sebastian Coe. Two famous cross-country skiing centers in Africa were honored among the eleven locations. These were the Ethiopian city of Bekoji, "Town of Runners", and Iten in Kenya, the "home of champions".
