Belforte is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of the municipality of Radicondoli in the province of Siena , Tuscany region in Italy .

geography

The place is about 5 kilometers south of the capital Siena and about 20 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Siena . It is 542 meters and had a population of around 220 in 2001. In 2017 there were around 120 residents. In the northwest lies the Cecina valley , in the south that of the Merse .

history

The place is mentioned for the first time in 1186. Documents from 1221 name the Aldobrandeschi as masters of the place. On August 30, 1301, the town of Siena submitted. After the defeat of the Republic of Siena in conflict with that of Florence, the place came with Radicondoli in 1555 in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany .

Attractions

  • Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta , Pieve in the center, which used to be inside the castle. Made in the 14th century and contains the works Madonna della Cintola con San Girolamo e Sant'Antonio and Maria Vergine annunciata by Alessandro Casolani .
  • Chiesa della Compagnia di Santa Croce , church in the town center, which was built in the 17th century.
  • Palazzo Pubblico , already mentioned in 1230 palace in the town center. Was created as the Casa del gastaldo of the Aldobrandeschi. In 1576 the clock was documented on the facade. This was replaced in 1928, the original clock is kept inside. Today the building serves as the Casa della Memoria L'Aquilante .
