Belimo headquarters in Hinwil

The Belimo Holding AG (proper spelling BELIMO ), based in Hinwil is an internationally active Swiss group of companies in the field of electric drive solutions in heating -, ventilation - and air conditioning systems . In addition to traditional technology for the development of actuators and valves (mechanics and electromechanics), electronic integrated circuits ( ASICs ) and integrated sensors with appropriate programming have also been used for some years in order to be able to offer particularly energy-efficient solutions. Belimo deliberately restricts itself to assembly, testing and sales as well as services for the products offered. The manufacture of the components used is left to subcontractors. This means that your own investments can be kept low. In addition, Belimo can deliver 80 percent of the range on offer worldwide within two days, which is only possible thanks to the range restrictions.

The fact that the newly developed Belimo Energy Valve is used for water applications in the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA , in the USA, shows the high level of development. Since 2017, these valves, which are in use at MIT, have been connected to cloud servers via the Internet and can thus be monitored centrally and the water flow optimized via remote control. Belimo products are also in use at the new Apple headquarters in Silicon Valley .

The company employs around 1,800 people and generated sales of 690 million Swiss francs in 2019. The level of self-financing is 84%. The Belimo Holding AG is listed on the Swiss stock exchange SIX Swiss Exchange listed . Special emphasis is placed on maintaining a uniform corporate culture.

history

The company was founded in 1975 as Belimo Automation AG in Gossau ZH . “Belimo” is an acronym from the three activities advising, delivering and installing. Right from the start, Belimo specialized in drive systems, which were first delivered in 1976. In 1979 the head office was relocated to Wetzikon . In 1977 the company founded its first sales company in Germany.

In the mid-1980s, the existing agencies in England, Finland, Norway, Austria, Denmark, France, Sweden and the Netherlands became independent sales companies. In 1989 the company expanded into the United States with the establishment of Belimo Aircontrols USA.

In the 1990s Belimo founded various subsidiaries: 1990 in Spain, 1993 and 1994 in Austria, Great Britain and France, 1995 in Canada and 1997 in Hong Kong. In the meantime, Belimo Automation AG became a public company through its IPO in 1995 . In 1998 the company name was changed to "Belimo Holding AG".

International expansion continued in the 2000s with the establishment of subsidiaries in Singapore, Poland, Australia and India.

In November 2002, the company moved into its new production and administration building in Hinwil, thereby merging all locations in the Zurich Oberland . At the same time, the company's headquarters were relocated from Wetzikon to Hinwil.

In order to enable further growth in the American market region, the location in Danbury, Connecticut , was expanded. The new building has been used as a production, logistics and administration building since 2014. As a further investment, a building extension for logistics in Hinwil (Switzerland) was made in 2014/2015.
