The annual daisy ( Bellis annua ) is a species of the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

description

The annual daisy is an annual plant that reaches heights of 3 to 12 centimeters. It does not have a distinct rosette of leaves like the Central European daisy , the stem is branched and leafy at the bottom, the roots are very fine. The tongue-shaped to spatula-shaped, notched-sawn or whole-edged leaves are up to 2.5 centimeters long and 1.5 centimeters wide.

The flower heads , standing on thin stems, have a diameter of 0.5 to 1.5 centimeters. They have two rows of bracts and white, with red hand often crowded florets . The achenes are compressed, hairy and have no pappus .

The flowering period is February to June.

The number of chromosomes for Bellis annua subsp. annua 2n = 18.

Occurrence

The annual daisy is distributed over the entire Mediterranean area and is also found in the Canary Islands . It colonizes grassy, ​​occasionally moist locations and also grows on sand.
