Ben l'Oncle Soul
Ben l'Oncle Soul (* 1984 in Tours , France ; actually Benjamin Duterde ) is a French soul singer and songwriter .
Career
He grew up listening to the music of Ray Charles , Sam Cooke , Donny Hathaway and Marvin Gaye . In 2004 he joined the gospel choir Fitiavana and was discovered and signed by Motown France in 2008 through his internet presence .
At the beginning of his career he appeared in the opening act of well-known interpreters such as Raphael Saadiq , Musiq Soulchild and India.Arie . Various collaborations with French artists such as Hocus Pocus and Oxmo Puccino followed . In 2009 he released his first EP called Soulwash that cover versions of songs such as Gnarls Barkley's Crazy or Katy Perry's I Kissed a Girl contains. However, he was only known for his own version of the song Seven Nation Army of the White Stripes , the first single of his second album Ben l'Oncle Soul . The album was released on May 17, 2010. It contains fourteen titles interpreted in English and French. His music is very reminiscent of the Motown times of the 1950s and 1960s.
Ben l'Oncle Soul won the European Border Breakers Award 2012.
In 2012, the song Petite sœur was used in the television commercials for the Duplo candy bar .
