Benedict Banga

Benedikt Banga (born April 17, 1802 in Basel , † July 5, 1865 in Liestal ) was a Swiss politician .

Banga completed an apprenticeship as a bookseller in Basel. In 1831 he joined the independence movement in the Basel cantons and was editor of the first newspaper in the new canton of Basel-Landschaft (“Der interschrockene Rauracher ”, today Basellandschaftliche Zeitung ), as well as a country writer . From 1845 to 1863 Banga Government , where he headed the Department of Education. In the years 1848 and 1850 he was also the district president.

Banga was a co-founder of the Baselland Cantonal Library and the Cantonal Museum. In Münchenstein , where he and Emil Remigius Frey ( Emil Frey's father ) received honorary citizenship on March 26, 1832, Benedikt-Banga-Strasse is named after him.
