Benedict Grothe

Benedikt Grothe (born April 8, 1960 in Munich ) is a German neuroscientist . He is Professor of Neurobiology at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (LMU). His research and teaching focuses on systemic neurosciences, neural networks and hearing perception .

Life

Grothe studied biology and psychology at LMU (diploma 1988, dissertation 1991). In 1990 and 1991 he was curator of the Paleontological Museum in Munich , which was followed by a research stay in the USA ( University of Texas at Austin , New York University ). From 1994 to 1998 he was assistant and senior assistant at the Institute of Zoology at LMU, where he qualified as a professor in 1996 in zoology. From 1999 to 2003 he headed a research group at the Max Planck Institute for Neurobiology in Martinsried . In 2003 he became professor for neurobiology at LMU. From 2003 to 2007 he was director of the neurobiology department at the LMU Biozentrum and has been the dean of the faculty of biology since 2009. Since 2006 he has been the spokesman for the “Munich Center for Neurosciences - Brain and Mind”.

In 2005 he was instrumental in founding the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience. Since 2006 he has been the coordinator of the elite Master of Neuroscience and the Graduate School of Systemic Neuroscience at LMU. In 2007 he was accepted into the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . Grothe is also a "Max Planck Fellow" at the MPI for Neurobiology (as of early 2015).

On July 13, 2016, Benedikt Grothe was elected a member ( matriculation number 7709 ) of the Leopoldina .
