Benedikt Jóhannesson

Benedikt Jóhannesson (born May 4, 1955 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic entrepreneur , publisher and politician ( Viðreisn ). He was Iceland's Finance Minister in the Bjarni Benediktsson cabinet (2017) .

Benedikt Jóhannesson received his PhD in statistics and mathematics from Florida State University in 1981. A few years later he founded the in the data analysis operating consulting company Talnakönnun , which he headed since then. From 2000 to 2016 he was the managing director of Útgáfufélagið Heimur publishing house , which publishes the news magazine Iceland Review . He is also the author of a volume of short stories .

Benedikt Jóhannesson has been chairman of the liberal and EU-friendly Viðreisn party ( e.g. reform , regeneration ) in May 2016 until October 11, 2017 (successor: Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir ). In the parliamentary elections on October 29, 2016 , he was elected to the Icelandic parliament Althing for the north-eastern constituency . He then resigned as editor of Iceland Review , succeeded by Jóhannes Benediktsson.

As of December 2016, Benedikt Jóhannesson was chairman of the parliamentary committee on economy and trade.

In January 2017, Benedikt Jóhannesson became finance minister in the Bjarni Benediktsson cabinet (2017) , which consisted of members of the Independence Party , his party Viðreisn and Björt framtíð . In the parliamentary elections on October 28, 2017 , he lost his seat in the Althing.
