Life

Origin and family

Benedikt Matthias von Korff zu Harkotten grew up as the son of Wilhelm Heinrich von Korff zu Harkotten and his wife Franzelina Christina von Galen zu Assen together with his siblings Wilhelm Friedrich (1688–1727, ⚭ Catharina Franziska Bernhardina von Westphalen. The daughter Francisca Lucia was abbess in Freckenhorst ), Hugo Gottfried , Maria Dorothea ( canon lady in Nottuln ), Dietrich Mauritz Joseph, Franz Bernhard (canon in Cappenberg ), Anna Elisabeth ( canon lady in Nottuln) and Francelina Helena ( canon lady in Langenhorst ) in the ancient noble von Korff family . On April 16, 1738 he signed a marriage contract and married Maria Anna Theresia von Asseburg zu Hinnenburg (1714–1766) in Brackel . The sons Carl Mauritz (⚭ Sophie Antonia von Boeselager) and Franz Adolph (Canon in Osnabrück) resulted from the marriage.

Act

With the receipt of the tonsure in 1712, Benedikt Matthias was prepared for a clerical position and attended the Jesuit school in Münster the following year. In 1718 he joined the Prince-Bishop's army , acquired the ensign's patent and became a lieutenant in the von Nagel regiment . Until his resignation in 1734, he served as captain in the Corfey regiment. The reason for the departure was the takeover of the parental inheritance. On December 30th, 1733 the revival to the knighthood of Münster took place. He was thus a representative in the state parliament . The task of this institution, consisting of the three estates, was to regulate the tax system and from 1447 also the feuding system in the bishopric of Münster .

Others

In 1727 he inherited from his brother Wilhelm Friedrich, who died on November 2, 1727 at Harkotten Castle .
