Beni Ansar - ferry port |
Beni Ansar or Aït Nsar (also Bni Nsar , Beni Nsar , Beni Ensar , Beni Enzar ; Arabic بني انصار, DMG Banī Anṣār , Central Atlas Tamazight ⴰⵢⵜ ⵏⵚⴰⵔ Ayt Nṣar ) is a city with about 60,000 inhabitants in the province of Nador in the Oriental region in northeastern Morocco . It is a border town to the Spanish enclave of Melilla ; The city regularly gains national fame through refugees from the African continent, who attempt to overcome the border fence to the Spanish enclave Melilla in large numbers. Beni Ensar has a port with ferries to France ( Sète ) and Spain ( Almería , Málaga ).
location
Beni Ansar is about 12 km (driving distance) north of Nador on the Mediterranean Sea. Buses run on both sides to close to the border with Melilla. The Taourirt - Nador railway line ends here with two train stations in the city, one in the city ( Beni Ansar Ville ) and one at the port ( Beni Ansar Port ).

At the beginning of the 20th century, Beni Ansar was a small fishing village with hardly more than 1,000 inhabitants. The city's population, which has been growing rapidly since the last decades of the 20th century, consists largely of immigrant Berbers . The main spoken language is Tamazight and Moroccan Arabic .
economy
The city lives from the ferry port and its proximity to Melilla: Smaller craft and trading companies have settled here, but smuggling of goods also plays a not insignificant role in small-scale border traffic.
Cité d'Atalayoun
In Beni Ansar the architect and civil engineer Dr. El Kambouch was born. In 2003 he designed and proposed the tourist project "Cité d'Atalayoun" on a peninsula protruding into the Mar Chica south of Beni Ansar. The "Atalayoun" project includes a marina , hotels and holiday apartments and is one of the largest tourism projects in Morocco; it has been implemented by the Marchicamed company since 2009 .
