from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Benigna Marie Reuss zu Ebersdorf (born December 15, 1695 in Ebersdorf , † July 31, 1751 in Pottiga ) was Countess Reuss von Lobenstein from the Ebersdorf line and a German hymn poet.

Life

Benigna Marie was a daughter of Count Heinrich X. Reuss zu Ebersdorf (1662–1711) and Countess Erdmuthe Benigna zu Solms-Laubach . She grew up in Ebersdorf and was brought up strictly pietistic. After the death of her parents, she moved to Pottiga.

Here she composed a number of hymns in the spirit of Zinzendorf , who was married to her younger sister Erdmuthe Dorothea . However, she rejected the Zinzendorf Brothers Congregation and regretted the split in the Protestant church that this brought about.

She was a close friend of the constitutional lawyer Johann Jacob Moser ; she died unmarried in Pottiga at the age of 55.
