Benjamin Jarrett

Benjamin Jarrett (born July 18, 1881 in Sharon , Mercer County , Pennsylvania , †  July 20, 1944 in Zanesville , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1943 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Benjamin Jarrett attended public schools in Wheatland . He then worked as an employee in the telegraph service and as a foreman in a steel factory. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1907, he began to work in Farrell in this profession. Between 1910 and 1930 he was the city's legal representative. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1911 and 1913 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate . From 1919 to 1923 he was a member of the Pennsylvania State Workmen's Compensation Board . At times he was also the district chairman of the Republicans in Mercer County.

In the 1936 congressional election , Jarrett was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 20th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Denis J. Driscoll on January 3, 1937 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1943 . By 1941, the last New Deal laws of the Roosevelt administration were passed there, which Jarrett's party was rather hostile to. Since 1941, the work of the Congress was also shaped by the events of World War II .

In 1942, Jarrett declined to run again. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. Benjamin Jarrett died on July 20, 1944 while visiting Ohio and was buried in Sharon.
